Diet Site is a comprehensive resource
intended to support dieters as they progress through
their diet by providing a collection of tools and
resources that are both informative and useful. As such,
Diet Site isn't a traditional diet plan, and doesn't
therefore tell you what to eat or how much exercise you
should be doing. Diet Site is intended to support and
supplement a diet program, enhancing an existing diet by
providing information that can help the dieter along the
way. Diet Site provides the sort of information that will
shape your food choices so that you can take more
responsibility for the impact of food on your nutritional
status and engage in your own self-care management and
that of your families. Notably, Diet Site is also a
corporate wellness tool, so there are membership options
available for companies to provide the tool as part of a
health care or wellness plan.
Firstly, Diet Site provides dieters with a range of tools
and resources intended to support their weight loss from
a dieting and healthy eating perspective. One of the best
tools featured on Diet Site is the comprehensive
Recipe and Food Analyzer. This resource contains
comprehensive nutritional and calorie information for
more than 5,600 food items, taken from a range of
respected industry sources (including the United States
Dietetic Association's Handbook 8). Users can therefore
enter the details of the foods they have eaten
during that day to get a comprehensive set of statistics
relating to the nutritional content of these foods.
Alongside the Analyzer tool, dieters can also use the 'My
nutritional needs' tool to establish, based on age,
gender, height, weight and a number of other important
factors, what their daily nutrient needs are, so this can
be examined alongside their actual intake data. All of
this information is stored on the site and can be
examined over time to help the dieter make informed
choices regarding diet and exercise regime.
In a similar vein, users also have access to a fairly
comprehensive range of exercise and fitness related
features. Dieters can use the exercise planner to build a
workout that is personalized and tailored to their
diet needs, while learning
about new fitness techniques using the exercise examples
section. Users can also record their fitness regime using
the fitness logs (broken into cardiovascular and strength
training logs), which collate 'calories burned'
information to provide a clear picture of how an
individual's fitness plan is developing. Such information
can help dieters to make informed decisions as to how to
make changes to their regime to ensure that it is always
appropriately challenging. Similarly, for those who
engage in regular sporting activity, Diet Site offers
users a range of 'sports nutrition' information for
anyone who participates in regular exercise and athletics
and wants to improve physical performance and stamina.
This section also includes a High Performance Eating Plan
for you which includes food and fluid needs for the
before, during and after exercise meals. We were
particularly impressed with the quality of many of these
features, though we did think that they were a little
hard to navigate and this may confuse some users.
Whilst Diet Site does offer a great variety of resources,
many of which will be useful to most dieters, we did
think there were a substantial amount of tools which
appeared to be aimed at a professional market, and
wouldn't be suitable for the average dieter. We would
recommend that users who are new to dieting and fitness
may prefer a more user-friendly site, with general
appeal, such as Calorie King, which offers a similar
service in terms of diet planning and calorie analysis.
If you're looking for professional-quality tools,
however, you're not likely to find resources of this
quality for a better price elsewhere, so Diet Site is
probably ideal for your needs.
