Dr. Weil's Optimum Health Plan is a unique health program that is centered around alternative medicine. Dr. Andrew Weil, the famous American medical doctor, author and ethnobotanist, developed the plan to encourage those who have struggled to lose weight with convention plans to gain further success. Dr. Weil graduated from Harvard twice, and has since gone on to become a pioneer in integrative medicine. Embraced by millions the world over, his philosophy utilizes both alternative and mainstream medicine and emphasizes mind, body, and spiritual balance. Dr. Weil founded the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine (AzCIM) at the University of Arizona Health Sciences in 1994, where he is a director of the program. He has written ten books that have sold over ten million copies, including Spontaneous Healing, 8 Weeks to Optimum Health, The Healthy Kitchen, and Healthy Aging. Whist Dr. Weil's medical philosophy has been successful worldwide, it has also attracted a great deal of criticism, much of which centers on his promotion of alternative medicine (much of which is unproven) at the expense of empirically tested established clinical practice.
