SlimmingWorld is an increasingly popular weight loss option, combining online tools with local meet up groups. Their aim is to keep you motivated with a support network and professional advice, with more of a focus on what you eat than the amount of exercise you do. They run regular competitions, public and private awards to help keep you going and reward you for success.
First, let’s talk food. The site offers over 1400 recipes to choose from, many of which can be made in advance or don’t take long to prepare, and all of which should help you to lose weight. They have real people in mind, so recipes aren’t often expensive or complex, which is good to see.
You can also keep an online food diary and plan out your meals to include foods you enjoy, which will also help to keep you motivated. After all, who wants to eat foods they don’t enjoy all the time? That’s a sure-fire way to fail.
The site doesn’t offer as many tools as we’ve seen elsewhere, but those it does offer work pretty well. There are trackers to help you check on your weight over time, and if you hit your targets you are given awards. SlimmingWorld.com also runs regular public competitions, as well as personal goals, helping to keep its members motivated by rewarding them for success rather than demonizing them for failures.
The support network is probably one of the greatest features of Slimming World, as you can get online support or join a group near you. These groups encourage members to become more sociable, not to worry about their appearance quite so much, but also to feel involved and part of a team.
In addition to these features, members also receive 8 Slimming World magazines over a 12 month contract (which would consist of 4 lots of 3 month contracts). Prices are fair and Gold Members also receive a set of Body Magic books to help them lose weight. If you’re not interested in any of the offline reading materials, you can save about £20 (around $30) over 3 months by just taking out the Bronze package.
Its nutritional and exercise tools are quite limited in comparison with some of the other sites around, but if you feel that you’d really benefit from a few friends in your community, each of whom is going through something similar to you, then we’d recommend considering Slimming World. Whilst SlimmingWorld.com might not have everything you want, we can’t deny that its support network could make a real difference.
